Does anyone know what the tests for city library jobs entail?

I’m applying for a job at the libary in Davenport, Iowa and I have to take a test to determine my “attention to detail”. Anyone know what kind of questions are on a test like this?

There are “Librarian Certification Examination” books that are supposed to cover civil service exams given in several states. I have never had anything like that, but I have taken three tests in conjunction with interviews. Each exam was very brief and focused on some specific aspect of the position to be filled.

A cataloging job asked me to catalog three books without providing copies of AACRII, LCSH, or DDC. I had to do everything from memory.

A supervisory job in reference asked me to write a notice of a policy change which my staff was required to explain to and enforce with patrons.

An entry level reference job asked me to demonstrate the use of a database to the panel as though they were a freshman class – they provided the disruptions, disinterest, and lack of respect natural for such a situation, and I was supposed to deal with it. I wasn’t aware that I was supposed to do anything other than demonstrate the database, though, and since it’s not politically correct to reprimand your future bosses, I didn’t. I also didn’t get the job.

All three tests put me through hell and I hope you don’t get anything like them.
